Temple of Poseidon Day 5!

Temple of Poseidon, Souinon

Today's adventure is going to be visiting the Temple of Poseidon, Souinon. The temple is located in Cape Souinon, Greece. It was built in 11th BC by Iktinos. The temple was built to honor Poseidon the god of sea, storms, and earthquakes. Poseidon was known to be one of the most important gods too pleased.

This temple had a hall of worship and very tall columns. As well they made a sculpture made of gold and ivory 20 ft tall to honor Poseidon. The columns are made of white marble and there were 6 columns in either end with 13 columns in the long side of the temple. There's myth that King of Athens. Aegues, killed himself by jumping off the cliff while he was on this temple.

It was an amazing view to see the sea from the inside of the temple. I can't deny it took a long time get here, but it was all worth it. I fell in love with the view and its background history of this temple. I can't wait for my next stop at the Temple of Hera.
