Temple of Olympian Zeus

 Temple of Olympian Zeus

The Temple of Olympian Zeus was built on 489 BC by the Roman Emperor Hadrian. The temple was built to honor the Zeus the god of sky and father of all gods. It was built in the central of Athens and it was one largest temple.  Peisistratus was the one who begun the construction but who finished it was Emperor Hadrian. They also built a statue of Zeus at Olympia made of gold and ivory and it was approximately 43ft high. The statue was destroyed on the 5th century of AD.  The image above its a sketch of what it could of have looked.

Zeus was one of the most admired gods in the ancient Greek. He was figured to be the king of the Greek gods and lived in the Mount Olympus. Zeus symbols was the lightning bolt, eagles, and the oak tree.

There is an enormous open space around the temple of Olympian. But as I observed the columns you can admired the creativity, they had on making them. I was fascinated on seeing that some of this artwork has been passed on to other architecture structures around the world. I am happy that I came to this historic place and can't wait to go to my other stop! The Temple of Apollo!!!
