Temple of Hera, Olympia

  Temple of Hera, Olympia  Today's adventure is visiting the Temple of Hera, Olympia. The temple is located in Olympia, Greece. It was built in 460 BC by Doric order. The temple was built to honor Hera the god of women, marriage, family and childbirth. She is also known to be the queen of gods and wife of Zeus. This temple was built has an altar for Hera and Zeus but since they built a separate temple for him it became only Hers. It's one of the oldest temples in Olympia. The temple was built with limestone and upper part with mud brick.  It got destroyed during an earthquake in the early 4th century CE. It's fascinating how the columns are still standing until this day.  As my journey comes to an end, I can't get over these amazing temples I visited. I have learned so much throughout this journey of each and one of the temples. I am amazed how the designs of these temples influenced so much in our modern buildings. I am glad that I was able to travel to Greece and see

Temple of Poseidon Day 5!

Temple of Poseidon, Souinon Today's adventure is going to be visiting the Temple of Poseidon, Souinon. The temple is located in Cape Souinon, Greece. It was built in 11th BC by Iktinos. The temple was built to honor Poseidon the god of sea, storms, and earthquakes. Poseidon was known to be one of the most important gods too pleased. This temple had a hall of worship and very tall columns. As well they made a sculpture made of gold and ivory 20 ft tall to honor Poseidon. The columns are made of white marble and there were 6 columns in either end with 13 columns in the long side of the temple. There's myth that King of Athens. Aegues, killed himself by jumping off the cliff while he was on this temple. It was an amazing view to see the sea from the inside of the temple. I can't deny it took a long time get here, but it was all worth it. I fell in love with the view and its background history of this temple. I can't wait for my next stop at the Temple of Hera.   Work Cite

Temple of Apollo Day 3!

  Temple of Apollo Today's adventure is going to be visiting the Temple of Apollo at Didyma. The temple is located in Mount Parnassos in central Greece. It was built in 7th BC by the two architects Trophonios and Agamedes. The temple was built to honor Apollo the god of music, harmony, light and healing. Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto. It’s one of the largest temples of Greece. As I observed there were no signs this temple had a roof. This temple was built like this! It is said to have high columns and was exposed to the sky to have an open sanctuary. The temple was destroyed during an earthquake that happened in 373 BC. But they rebuilt it once again in 330 BC by the architect Corinth. It was an amazing view to see the mountains from the inside of the temple. I can't deny it was a long walk to get here but it was all worth it. I fell in love with the view and its background history of this temple. I can't wait for my next stop at the temple of Poseidon. Temple of Olympian Zeus

 Temple of Olympian Zeus The Temple of Olympian Zeus was built on 489 BC by the Roman Emperor Hadrian. The temple was built to honor the Zeus the god of sky and father of all gods. It was built in the central of Athens and it was one largest temple.  Peisistratus was the one who begun the construction but who finished it was Emperor Hadrian. They also built a statue of Zeus at Olympia made of gold and ivory and it was approximately 43ft high. The statue was destroyed on the 5th century of AD.  The image above its a sketch of what it could of have looked.  Zeus was one of the most admired gods in the ancient Greek. He was figured to be the king of the Greek gods and lived in the Mount Olympus. Zeus symbols was the lightning bolt, eagles, and the oak tree.  There is an enormous open space around the temple of Olympian. My Adventures in Greece

I have decided to go to Greece to visit the 5 most beautiful monuments. The first one I am going to visit is the Parthenon, Temple of Zeus, Temple of Hera, Temple of Apollo and Temple of Poseidon. The reason I am going to visit these temples is because I am fascinated with the stories behind it and architecture.  The Parthenon, Athens; One of the most recognized monuments in Greece is The Parthenon that located in Athens. The Parthenon was built on 447 B.C by the architects Iktinos and Callicrates. This temple was dedicated for the goddesses Athena, she was known to be the goddesses of wisdom and war. The Athens admired this goddess. Inside the temple they built a statue of Athena made of gold and ivory. Athena sculpture was destroyed during a war.      Throughout the years the columns, frieze and pediment having been damaged. But as I observed the middle and east pediment was removed reasons are said that it was because this temple was converted into a Christian church, in which they
